How to Fix a Slow Windows 7 Computer?

Have you ever felt that your computer runs slower and slower? It's really annoying! Few things are more aggravating than waiting for a slow computer to load. If so, the following information will help you fix your slow computer and boost up your computer.

1. Check for viruses

Based on my personal experience, your computer is likely to get virus affected if it suddenly runs slowly. In reality, today spyware and other malware is a big cause of many computer problems including a slow computer. For this problem, you can try to remove the viruses by using a powerful antivirus program. If you haven't got antivirus software running already, download the free AVG. It is a good idea to run your antivirus program every week.

2. Remove or unwanted programs and add-ons

Browser add-ons can slow browsing, especially if you install several of them. Unwanted programs takes up too much spaces of your hard disk can also slow down the computer too. Look for software you no longer use, such as the old printer you threw out last year and remove it. Disable anything you are not currently using.

3. Free some disk space

A disk that's running out of space can slow Windows a lot, as it juggles data that it would normally just spit out to the disk. To reclaim space, run the Disk Cleanup tool to remove Internet cache files, clear the Recycling Bin and delete installed programs that you never use.

4. Defragment your computer

If there's a lot of large files on your PC, the system will place their paths in gaps between other files when attempting to allocate space for them. Accessing such fragmented files has bad impact on your PC's performance. To avoid this, you can defragment your PC regularly. Although this takes some time, but will speed your computer significantly.

5. Check for disk errors

Logical hard drive errors and physical damage often lead not only to data loss and crashes, but also to system slowdown. To find and fix these errors, Go to My Computer and right-click on C drive. Choose Properties, then Tools.
